A scoop of Crackerjack Merigold seeds harvested from my personal garden. If you follow me on social media you've surely seen me post about them!
Crackerjack Merigold is one of my favorite annual flowers to plant & one I consider superior against all other annual flowers!
- Seeds take 5-10 days to sprout.
- Crackerjack can be grown as a low bush or grown up to 3-4 feet tall.
- Great for cut flowers.
TO GROW AS A TALL BUSH:
Just seed & let it do its thing! It will grow a beautiful 3-4 foot tall full & slender bush!
HOW TO GROW SMALLER & BUSHIER:
Once your seedling has at least 3 sets of leaves pinch off the set of leaves above that to encourage a shorter more bushy growth pattern. Continue to pinch off in areas as it grows.
WHY IS IT SUPERIOR - LET ME TELL YOU!
Forgot to pinch off leaves as it was growing? Doesn't matter! Just push the plant onto its side! It will start to grow more roots out of the main stock where it touches the ground & promote bushy upright growth off of the main stem & already developed stems.
The more you cut, the more it grows!
You want more plants but the season has already started & you dont have time to seed? Doesn't matter! Just cut off a pencil + thick branch from your already growing bush & stick it in the ground! It will propagate, developing roots off the base that was placed into the ground, & grow a new plant within days! Just make sure to keep it watered in the meantime!
Amazing vase life! I cut these for fresh cut flowers all spring / summer / fall long & they outlast every other flower in the base! If cut at the right time the flower will easily last 2 weeks in a vase!
Each flower has hundreds of seeds inside!
There is no need to edit these flowers to make them more beautiful! The yellow & orange colors produced by this plant are as vibrant as they look so you wont be disappointed in their color once they start to grow!
NEGATIVES:
Some people do not like the smell of Merigold plants in general. The smell doesn't bother me & I don't notice it. I would say if you are someone who likes the smell of fertilizer, fresh grass, sharpies, etc, you wont be bothered by the smell.
